MB Leadership Training
This week marked the end of a one-and-a-half-month-long online leadership training. This program provided a great opportunity to reflect on whether I want to pursue a path in Technical Leadership or People Leadership.
At the beginning of the year, the company designates employees for leadership training, and the program opens up to the entire group in either German or English. Participants register on a first-come, first-served basis during a suitable time slot, and confirmations are finalized.
Before the pandemic, this training was held in person, but it has since shifted to an online format. The program consists of six sessions, each lasting two and a half hours weekly. In between sessions, participants are expected to prepare for the next one.
The first session introduces the training, with 12 participants and the facilitator. We are divided into three teams of four. The program covers four major topics: Values & Purpose, Career Drivers, Managing Expectations & Tensions, and Strengthening Resilience & Resources. Each team member takes turns as the host for these topics. In the final session, the team and coordinator wrap things up with a summary and closing.
Our team included members from Germany, Italy, Singapore, and South Africa, each holding different roles. We shared our experiences and challenges, ending the sessions on a warm and collaborative note.
During the preparation period, I interviewed three senior management members, one peer, and one friend outside of work, using a provided set of questions. These interviews gave me insights into their management styles and perspectives on me, which prompted a lot of self-reflection. Throughout the sessions, I reflected deeply on my personality and considered how I might move forward.
Although I still haven’t reached a definitive decision, I believe that gaining diverse experiences is beneficial. During the final session, the coordinator suggested the next level of leadership training, which I plan to pursue with my manager next year.
Though I haven’t included all the details here, I plan to continue participating in various leadership programs, mentoring, books, and e-learning opportunities to enhance my personal skills along with my technical development.
